California Privacy Notice
Effective date: October 2, 2026
This notice supplements our Privacy Policy for residents of California, describing rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CCPA/CPRA"). Storybranch is operated by SideQuest LLC, a Nevada limited liability company. We extend the rights below to all California visitors as a matter of practice, whether or not the law's applicability thresholds are met in a given year.
1. Categories of personal information we collect
In the last 12 months (and today), we have collected the following categories of personal information, as those categories are defined by the CCPA:
| Category | Examples we collect | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Name, email address, a unique account identifier (if you join with Google) | You; Google, at your direction |
| Internet or network activity | If we add analytics: pages viewed, device and browser type | Automatically, from your use of the Site |
| Commercial information | None today; order history, shipping details, and payment method (via a payment processor) once our store launches | You, at purchase |
We do not collect the CCPA's "sensitive personal information" categories (such as government identifiers, precise geolocation, race or ethnicity, health information, or account credentials for other services), and we do not collect personal information from children.
2. How we use and disclose personal information
We use these categories for the business purposes described in our Privacy Policy: operating the Site and our store, sending updates you've agreed to receive, advertising Storybranch, improving the Site, and fulfilling orders. We disclose identifiers to service providers (Shopify and Appstle for the store, checkout, and subscriptions; Gelato for printing and shipping; email service providers) under contracts limiting their use of the information.
3. "Sale" and "sharing"
We do not sell personal information for money and have not done so in the preceding 12 months. We may "share" identifiers (hashed email addresses) with advertising platforms such as Meta or Google to reach our subscribers and similar audiences with Storybranch ads — this is "cross-context behavioral advertising" sharing as the CPRA defines it. You have the right to opt out at any time: see Your Privacy Choices, or email mike@sidequestapp.com with the subject "Do not share my information." We do not sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 at all.
4. Your California rights
- Right to know — request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we've collected about you, the sources, purposes, and third parties involved.
- Right to delete — request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing — as described in Section 3.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information — we don't collect it, so there is nothing to limit.
- Right to non-discrimination — we will never deny you products or services, charge different prices, or reduce quality because you exercised a privacy right.
5. How to exercise your rights
Email mike@sidequestapp.com with the right you want to exercise. To verify your identity, we match your request to the email address on your order or subscription — write from that address, or tell us which address you used and we'll verify by confirmation email to it. You may use an authorized agent by providing signed permission for the agent to act for you. We respond within 45 days (extendable once by 45 days with notice, as the law allows), and exercising rights is always free. We also honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal as an opt-out of sharing where the law gives it effect.
6. Retention
We keep personal information until you ask us to delete it or it is no longer needed for the purposes described (order records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires). Records of privacy requests themselves are kept as required by law (generally 24 months).
